Pratima Chabbi seated at a café table in a colourful Bengaluru interior

I write about people, their work and the places they make.

I’m a Bengaluru-based writer whose work explores food, hospitality and culture through places and the people who give them meaning. I am the author of Chakla Makla and The MTR Story: A Labour of Love, and my writing has appeared in publications including The Migration Story, The Hindu, The Established, BBC Good Food, Time Out, Bangalore Mirror and Goya Journal. I also spent over a decade working in hospitality, which gave me an understanding of the industry from the inside.

That experience continues to shape what I am drawn to in my writing: not just what a place represents, but the people who make it what it is, the work that sustains it, the memories it holds, and the knowledge carried through recipes, rituals and ways of working. I’m interested in what these details reveal about the history of a place and the lives built around it.
